Function:
To perform instructional and related duties in the colleges carpentry educational program.
Organizational Relationship:
Faculty member reports to the Dean of Workforce Engagement & Industrial Careers, who reports to the Vice President of Instructional Services, who reports to the President.
Qualifications for the Position:
Required:
- Associates Degree in Construction Occupations or related field, and/or appropriate certification(s) and industry work experience in Construction. Certifications may include Occupational Certificate, Completed Apprenticeship, national or state-issued license, or industry recognized credential in the field.
- Minimum of 2,000 hours non-teaching relevant work experience in construction or related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years of construction safety experience.
- Certificate of Completion for OSHA course #510, Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry
- Authorized OSHA Trainer in Construction (or be willing to obtain within 6 months of hire).
- Possess a strong commitment to student learning and to the use of technology and innovation in the delivery of instruction.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Willingness and ability to teach students and work with entire College community in an effective and positive manner.
Preferred:
- Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Construction Technology or related field.
- Certificate of Completion for OSHA #500 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry.
- Two (2) years of community college teaching experience in the field.
- Forklift Operators Certification and trainer card.
Essential Functions:
- Perform instructional duties as assigned for appropriate subject area.
- Demonstrate proficiency with MS Office suite software.
- Prepare or update syllabi as needed for all courses in which the faculty member has instructional responsibilities.
- Participate in student recruitment, placement, registration and orientation for the program.
- Actively engage in activities that support enrollment and program growth.
- Mentor students in the registration process and during office hours.
- Prepare reports as requested.
- Participate in commencement exercises.
- Recommend textbooks and equipment, which the instructor deems necessary in instructional assignments.
- Ensure classroom/lab area has sufficient inventory of supplies to be used for instructional purposes.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly classroom environment conducive for learning.
- Ensure access to students and employees through posted office hours and timely communication.
- Develop appropriate curriculum for instructors subject area.
- Assist in development of alternative educational options including but not limited to short-term certificates, competency-based education, and education and workforce trainings, as applicable.
- Perform assessment of student learning and participate in college wide assessment program.
- Perform annual and five-year program review.
- Communicate with department adjuncts and dual credit faculty regularly to ensure consistency in curriculum, assessment, and program outcomes.
- Report absences from assigned responsibilities promptly to the Academic Dean.
- Maintain attendance and grade records and provide these records for review as necessary.
- Participate in professional development activities both on campus and off-campus as requested.
- Maintain current certifications and licensures as appropriate for the position.
- Keep abreast of current trends, technologies and information in subject area.
- Plan and implement a program of communication and recruitment with potential interested students in the specific teaching area or vocational program. Be responsible for ensuring adequate enrollment levels in instructors instructional program.
- Maintain an active Program Advisory Committee.
- Organize and/or attend meetings as required. Attend and participate in committee meetings, sponsorship of student activities and other College activities as requested.
- Work closely with business and industry to develop partnerships and to ensure that the program meets the needs of business and industry, students and the community.
- Promote an educational environment that recognizes and values diversity, equity, and inclusion as integral components of academic excellence.
- Serve as a Program/Discipline Coordinator as needed/assigned.
Non-Essential Functions
- Review, recommend, and provide input to the Dean in the budget and course fee process annually and regularly monitor department budget.
- Assist the appropriate College staff in follow-up activities for graduating or existing Kaskaskia students.
- Assist the appropriate College staff in the dissemination of information dealing with Kaskaskias programs and activities for students and the community.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility:
Supervise student worker(s) as necessary.
Supervisory Controls:
Faculty member is required to work independently with a minimum amount of supervision. Consultation as necessary is available with the Academic Dean.
Guidelines:
Faculty member is expected to follow all College policies and procedures as well as all local, state, and federal laws. Faculty members are also expected to adhere to and foster development of Kaskaskia College core values of learning, respect, excellence, access, diversity, integrity, and community.
Personal Relationships:
Faculty member will have daily contact with students and other College employees and will have frequent contact with community.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Duties will be performed in an academic environment consistent with the program of study or a business and industry environment. The environment may be prone to frequent distractions and interruptions. Travel within the College district, as well as occasional overnight travel is required as necessary to perform the duties of the position and consistent with the collective bargaining agreement.
